As rains pounded East Texas, a group of burros found themselves dangerously stranded on smaller and smaller parcels of land without access to food. They were finally led through the belly-deep water to safety.

Goats, stranded on San Clemente Island in southern California, were routinely shot by hovering aircraft. A fight against the U.S. Navy and Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger finally led to The Fund's second largest animal rescue.
