Meet the Director

Diane Miller, Director

Diane Miller is the director of the nearly 1,300-acre Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch in Murchison, Texas, where she oversees the care of nearly 1,300 animals. The ranch was established in 1979 by author Cleveland Amory as a home for animals rescued from eradication programs on public lands, and abuse at the hands of research labs, the entertainment and agriculture industries, captive hunting operations, and other cruelty.

It is the largest and most diverse animal sanctuary in the United States, and is one of five direct animal care facilities of The Humane Society of the United States and The Fund for Animals.

Before joining The HSUS, Miller spent more than 10 years as director of Farm Sanctuary’s California Shelter. She developed and oversaw protocols for all aspects of animal care for an ongoing sanctuary population of up to 800 rescued farm animals. She also led animal care training programs and resources for the public and staff alike.

As director, she headed efforts to respond to animal cruelty reports, including ongoing investigations, surveillance and documentation of violations at stockyards, factory farms and other animal production facilities. She also helped carry out farm animal rescues across the western U.S. and oversaw extensive education, internship and events programs for the organization.

Before joining Farm Sanctuary, she was the live-in caregiver for a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center in Texas.

Miller is frequently called upon as an opinion expert and has appeared in countless local and major media reports for television, print and radio, including Animal Planet, Fox TV, The Los Angeles Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, and others.
