Julie Hoffman Marshall, the author of
Making Burros Fly: Cleveland Amory, Animal Rescue Pioneer, describes the endeavors of The Fund for Animals’ founder, Cleveland Amory, to protect and ultimately save animals in harm’s way. The book also chronicles the journey of the animal welfare movement by examining the past and exploring the future. Marshall is an award-winning journalist from Colorado.
Amory was perhaps best known as the world-respected author of the cat trilogy: The Cat Who Came for Christmas, The Cat and the Curmudgeon, and The Best Cat Ever. His greatest legacy perhaps is the Black Beauty Ranch (now named the Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch, in his honor), a permanent home for animals who have been abused, abandoned, or injured.
Those who had the good fortune of meeting Amory personally will never forget his presence. The rest of us now have Marshall’s book to read, so we, too, can learn about the passionate animal advocate and the inspiring way he made a difference for animals.
